I recently received a phone call from a former patient, someone who is giving up on life because she can’t find her way out of the “conveyor belt” syndrome that is so typical of our current “disease-centered” medical care system. It makes me weep to know that the resources for healing are right within reach…right inside this most amazing body that we have been given, and our system of medicine has either forgotten this or chooses not to recognize the numerous studies that support the inherent integrity of the human body to self-correct and heal itself.
In a recent report of all causes of death in our country, 106, 000 were from adverse drug reactions. We have developed a reliance on pharmaceutical drugs that ultimately cannot heal. We are told that these drugs have been tested and deemed safe, but then we pick up the prescription at the pharmacy and read about all the side effects…some very dangerous and even deadly. For a new drug to be approved for public use the drug companies have to run at least 2 tests and prove that it is more effective than placebo.
Be aware that a drug doesn’t have side effects, it has an effect on the whole body. What are the names of these drugs? Antibiotics, antidepressants, anti-anxiety, antihypertensives, anticoagulants. Anti, anti, anti…against the symptoms produced in the body. I have never understood why we call them such names. It’s scary to say the least. What about pro-life? Pharmaceutical drugs do not heal; they suppress the body’s attempt to heal itself.
I am a physician, and I took the Hippocratic Oath when I graduated from medical school: “First do no harm.” I took that oath to heart. I have dedicated my life to helping people heal at the deepest level. According to Dr. Samuel Hahnamann, the founder of homeopathy, “the doctor’s first and only calling is to heal the sick.” The doctor’s duty is to activate and re-activate the inherent healing capacity of the body. As a holistic physician, I use safe, effective therapies that stimulate the healing response.
So, what are you supposed to do with the prevailing message in our society: “ A pill for every ill.” You must educate yourself about what you need in order to heal in a safe, gentle and effective manner. Take responsibility and take your health in your own hands. Find a more holistic approach to your healing needs, and you will experience a greater sense of wholeness and regain your vitality, joy, and happiness. Education, not medication is what will fix our broken medical system.
