Are You Heading for a Nursing Home?

Are You Heading for a Nursing Home?

About 50% of nursing home residents are under the age of 85. Why are they there?

A significant number of residents have memory problems or problems making daily decisions. Persons with serious dementia certainly need nursing home care. Neurofeedback training can help other older adults who have less-serious memory and decision-making problems to improve mental function and remain in their homes.

Almost all nursing home residents have some type of physical disability that interferes with activities of daily living like cooking, bathing, shopping and cleaning. Many people could remain safely at home, able to do chores of daily living, if only they […]

The Epidemic of Traumatic Brain Injuries

The Epidemic of Traumatic Brain Injuries

The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in our body. Its optimal function is imperative for life. It is a very soft structure, protected only by the bony skull. The skull is a hard covering with space between the soft brain and the inner surface of the cranial vault.

A blow to the head or any movement that causes the brain to move inside the skull easily bruises the brain. This is an image of what happens when you suffer from a concussion:

As you can see the brain is tossed around within the skull causing it […]

Finally, Pediatricians are Waking up!

Finally, Pediatricians are Waking up!

Believe it or not, I recently received a phone call from a local pediatrician (who is one of the more “open-minded” doctors I have met) asking me to see one of his patients (diagnosed with ADHD) for an EEG evaluation and neurofeedback training. He referred to a recent research paper, published by “Pediatrics – Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics”, http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/133/3/483.full.html

The article appeared in the February 17, 2014 journal. Basically, neurofeedback was used to help students with ADHD gain better concentration, attention and focus. The outcome in the study was quite impressive:

Is Your Brain Too Sweet?

Is Your Brain Too Sweet?

Sugar is America’s number one food additive. Even our children are consuming between 120-150 pounds of refined sugar each year. Parents know that soda, candy and all sweets are not healthy choices for kids. What parents need to know is that neurofeedback evaluations of the brains of children before and after the consumption of sugar show dangerous and abnormal changes in brainwave activity. So we have scientific evidence of why so many ADHD children have been helped greatly just by eliminating sugar from the diet.

Over two-thirds of the refined sugar used in this country is added to manufactured food products. […]

Fix Your Brain!

Fix Your Brain!

Doesn’t it seem like there is an epidemic of dysfunctional brains? Everywhere we turn, we are hearing more and more about the dramatic increase in depression, kids and adults with trouble concentrating and focusing, an escalation in children with autism, and the heartache of our returning soldiers with symptoms of head injuries, and posttraumatic stress syndrome. Is there help for this “broken brain syndrome?” Yes, there is! Why? Because of something called neuroplasticity: the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. That means the brain can heal itself with the right kind of therapy.

At Healing […]
